Heavy Weight Gi Order

03/13/08

We are going to be making a Heavy Weight Gi order on Wednesday, March 19th.   A heavy weight gi is a 14 oz., 100% brushed cotton uniform that will last much longer than the student 7.25 oz. weight gi.  The heavy weight gi is more appropriate for the dedicated martial artist.  It is more durrable, provides more "Snap" when applying proper technique and is recommended for those who wish to compete in tournaments at a high level.  If you would like us to include a heavy weight gi for you on our next order, let us know at the front desk on or before Tuesday, March 18th.

Dojo Improvements!

03/05/08

I am excited to announce that we will be upgrading our training floor surface to "tatami" style mats.  This is something that I have wanted for our dojo for a while as they will help our classes run more efficiently.  These mats will allow more room for safe takedowns and grappling while still providing a great surface for stand up techniques and kata.  We are hopeful that the mats will arrive later this month (March).

Taekwondo and Board Breaking Workshop

03/04/08

Excitement is high about the Taekwondo Seminar and optional Board Breaking workshop on Friday, March 14th from 5:30-7:00 pm.  As of today, there is still room for a few more to participate.  You need to be at least 7 years old to register.  This seminar will be beneficial to anyone who would like to learn or improve their dynamic kicking.  Kicks such as jumping kicks, spinning kicks and power kicks are sure to be a hit.  Also, you can register to participate in the Board Breaking workshop immediately following the Taekwondo Seminar and discover if you have what it takes to break a real board!

Be Respectful - Wear Your Karate Gi Correctly

02/12/08

Wearing your uniform properly is an important sign of respect.  As a reminder, your full uniform includes white gi pants, white USKS gi top with a USKS t-shirt worn underneath, and your belt.  If you do not have your USKS t-shirt available, you may wear a plain white t-shirt under your gi top.  Remember that any other t-shirt is not considered part of your uniform and is not appropriate to wear while in class.  (You wouldn't expect to see a soldier wearing his "Disneyland" t-shirt while on duty).

Summer uniforms include white gi pants, USKS t-shirt, and your belt.  T-shirts are to be tucked in at all times.  Full gi's are always preferred.

Keep your uniform laundered on a regular basis.

Thank you for honoring the uniform requrements.

Coming Soon: Student Progress Reports

11/27/07

We have heard several of our families request more communication regarding the progress of their son or daughter.  With our busy class schedule, time to speak with parents before or after class is limited but we believe communication is very important.  Our solution is to periodically send home a progress report showing the strengths and weaknesses of each student so the parents will have some feedback on how their child is progressing.  Again, these progress reports are not intended to alarm anyone with "Red Flags" but rather provide us with a way improve our communication with parents.  We hope you find these reports helpful.
